Guidance, factsheets, CA finalised documents… navigate your way with all these documents

Kerona Scientific was delighted to host Dr Boris Van Berlo from Biocides for Europe (CEFIC) as a speaker at the Dublin Biocide Symposium in March 2024. Dr Boris gave a detailed explanation of how to navigate through the different biocide documentation and webpages to make sure companies do not miss any steps in the authorisation process for biocidal products.

He suggested checking the following documents and shared the links to access each webpage/ document:

1. Documents finalized at Competent Authority Meetings (final CA documents)
   1. Index document for finalized CA documents
2. Documents/agreements from ECHA Coordination Group (CG)
3. Guidance on biocides legislation
   1. Forms and templates
   2. Guidance documents
4. Technical Agreements on Biocides (TAB) from ECHA Biocidal Products Committee Working Groups (BPC WGs)
5. Documents from ECHA BPC WGs
   1. APCP, Efficacy, Environment and Human Health
6. Documents from the ECHA BPC Ad hoc WGs
   1. Human Exposure
   2. ARTFood
   3. Environmental Exposure
   4. Microorganisms
7. Emission Scenario Documents
8. Practical guides, biocides submission manuals, technical support & fact sheets

He also gave some guidance on how to access the Technical Support for IUCLID and R4BP3.

Additionally, he outlined that the SPC Editor is no longer available, and this step is now included in the IUCLID tool, see the webpage for more information: https://echa.europa.eu/support/dossier-submission-tools/spc

Dr Boris finished his presentation outlining the importance of checking the Fact sheets and shared other useful links to help navigate the EU biocide guidance.

During the Q&A after the presentation, Lucas Kalkers from the Ctgb kindly shared the Evaluation Manual (developed by the Ctgb) that can be found online: https://english.ctgb.nl/biocidal-products/assessment-framework/evaluation-manual. It describes the assessment framework used by Ctgb for the assessment of application for authorization of biocidal products.
