At the 2021 Dublin Plant Protection Symposium, Dr Dimitra Kardassi and Alessia Verani of EFSA, gave a presentation on various new aspects of the EFSA peer review.
To start with, the four pillars of the Transparency Regulation 2019/1381, which is applicable for new dossiers and applications submitted on or after 27th March 2021, were outlined. These four pillars are: transparency, more reliable independent studies, better governance and effective risk communication.
This was followed by a review of the new implementing act on renewals, Regulation 2020/1740, which is applicable for renewals for which the approval will expire on or after 27th March 2024. This act aims at introducing the new requirements arising from the Transparency Regulation.
EFSA has also developed new tools for applicants and member states. The Connect EFSA portal can be used for notification of studies, pre-submission advice and public and targeted consultation. The IUCLID tool is for dossier submission and additional data requests and follow-up. The Open EFSA portal hosts information on EFSA’s scientific assessments and can be used to access all public documents related to the risk assessment process. Finally, Portalino can be used for submitting confidentiality requests related to applications, datasets and documents supporting the generic mandates.
