At the recent Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) meeting on the 8th of March, the ECHA BPC announced their approval of nitrogen generated from ambient air as a low-risk active substance for Annex I to the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). Additionally, the BPC has shown their support for Union Authorization (UA) of a product containing the active substance peracetic acid as a product type 2. The adopted opinions will be available on the ECHA website in the near future https://echa.europa.eu/-/highlights-from-march-2023-bpc-meeting
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published a bulletin on March 9th, 2023 https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/UKHSE/bulletins/34d581a. Annexes II and III of the BPR from Great Britain (GB) set out the requirements for applying for biocidal active substance or product approval. The HSE had suggested modifications to these annexes in response to scientific advancements, introducing new testing methods and promoting in vitro studies. The HSE sought feedback on these proposed changes through a consultation process, which has now closed as of March 14th.
