We are pleased to announce that Alkyl (C12-16) dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (ADBAC/BKC (C12-C16)) has been approved as an active substance for use in biocidal products of product-type 2 (disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals) in the European Union. The approval was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 15th January 2024.
ADBAC/BKC (C12-C16) is a quaternary ammonium compound that has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It is widely used as a surface disinfectant in various settings, such as healthcare, food industry, and household.
According to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/235, biocidal products containing ADBAC/BKC (C12-C16) as an active substance for PT2 must be authorised in accordance with the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) (EU) No 528/2012 by 1st July 2025. The authorisation process requires a comprehensive assessment of the efficacy, safety, and environmental impact of the biocidal products.
At Kerona, we have extensive experience and expertise in biocide registration and authorisation in the EU. We can help you plan and conduct the necessary studies, prepare and submit the BPR authorisation dossier, and liaise with the competent authorities and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
